She’s been a philanthropist throughout her career and nothing less than an inspiration to us all. Alicia Keys’ organization, Keep a Child Alive–which raises money for HIV/AIDS patients in Africa and India–had its annual Black Ball on Thursday, Sept 30th and raised $2.4 million for AIDS treatment. Incredible right? The gala was held in New York—the “concrete jungle where dreams are made of”— and guests included Jennifer Hudson, Whitney Houston, Beyonce, Usher, Jay-Z and Janelle Monae.
A proud and pregnant Keys performed “Love is Stronger Than Pride” with Sade. In her blog, Keys beamed, “I felt as if I wouldn’t be able to keep my feet on the ground or that someone had better pinch me cause this was unreal!!” What’s unreal is how potent her organization is! Not only do they provide medicine to those affected with HIV/AIDS, but they are also able to build clinics, improving exisiting organizations, building orphanages for children who lost their parents to the disease. It must feel fulfilling to be a part of something so unbelievably amazing. Read Alicia Keys’ entire reaction to her Black Ball gala here.
